1 Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Division

The SMT division is an ultra-modern factory equipped with state-of-the-art SMT machines with a line component mounting speed of 14000 components per hour. The division has Platted Through Line with Double Wave Soldering Machines supported by a testing line with a full-fledged team of engineers to test the assemblies.

Accredited with ISO 9001-2000 certification, Cerebra Integrated Technologies Limited is now in the process of implementing world class Quality Standards for process capability measurements using SPC tools. Protection against the Electro-Static Discharges (ESD) is taken care of by the completely anti-static environment created within the factory.

2 Facts & Figures

  • In terms of area Cerebra has 6000 square feet allocated for manufacturing, housing within, the incoming stores, incoming QC, SMT line, Through-hole line, Testing line, Outward stores, Clean-room and the Despatch section.
  • The present plant utilization is at 65% with sufficient capacity for expansion.
  • Products manufactured at this division include Motherboards, Network Interface Cards, AGP Cards and Memory Modules under the brand name of 'Kranion'. The division also undertakes sub-contract work.
  • The on-line Material Requirements Planning system in place with a strong network server at the back-end has helped Cerebra keep pace with volatile technology changes.
  • The SMT Division has a capacity of producing 15000 motherboards every month.
  • The Division's total yields are above 98% with defect levels below 400 D.P.M.

3 Quality Control

Cerebra is wholly committed to customer satisfaction through quality and has ensured that the quality of its products is comparable to international standards. The incoming quality is controlled with a strong focus on the International Quality Control (IQC) norms.

The production processes are based on the flow line production method, where the failures are controlled within DMP levels (300 - 400). All the inspection standards are adhered to, conforming to IPC 610A.

Field failures measure below 0.5% owing to the implementation of planned and executed preventive actions and a constant feedback mechanism to incorporate the corrective actions into the manufacturing processes.

4 CERTIFICATION

Cerebra is a ISO 9001:2000 certified company for operations covering Production, installation and servicing of computers, accessories and software, from KEMA, the Dutch council for accreditation

5 Subcontract work

Cerebra undertakes subcontract work for the manufacturing of electronic assemblies having mixed technologies. Job works for middle-clients with the products ultimately being exported to the Europe and South Asian countries by the end-client and jobs for US based companies are a few credits to mention in Cerebra's achievements overseas. Cerebra has successfully delivered job works with respect to Proto type, Mass manufacturing and BGA reworks, to a good number of customers.

The Division's Strengths

  • A very strong process monitoring system. Quality Monitoring Charts in place at every critical stage of manufacturing, giving timely alerts when processes tend to go out of control. Based on these charts, the Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) are arrived at for short-term and long-term.
  • Implementation of SPC Tools for the process capability studies underway.
  • The division's main USP being understanding the DFM aspects of electronic assemblies based on mixed technologies and participaticipation with the partner right from the design stage.
  • Strong in technical understanding of complex PCB based on microprocessor logics and capacity to write test software for repair purposes.
  • Expertise in making test jigs for the functional testing of assemblies.

6 Infrastructure

 

 

A. DEK 248CE is a semi-automatic, screen-printing machine with DEK align vision system. This can store up to 35 different menu files, which is micro-controlled. The machine has programmable separation speeds and a RS232 link, which can be hooked to a external computer for the offline programming and data analysis.

B. SMT line

  • GEM Topaz is a high speed Pick and place machine with an optimal placement rate of 14000 CPH with eight heads, simultaneous pick and on the fly correction for its X, Y and theta adjustments. It is capable of handling 0402 and 25 mm square PLCC. It can handle up to 32 mm square of fine pitch components. With a mounting accuracy of 0.06 mm for QFP using high precision head, it has the line sensor camera with fore light system for vision on the fly image processing vision system. It has 94 x 8 mm bulk feeder positions.

  • GEM Emerald is a high precise Pick and place machine with an optimal placement rate of 7000 CPH with two heads, simultaneous pick and on the fly correction for its X, Y and theta adjustments. It is capable of handling 0402 & 50 mm square PLCC and 0201 components. It can handle up to 45 mm square of fine pitch components using its 54 mm CCD camera. With a mounting accuracy of 0.04 mm for QFP using high precision head, it has the line sensor camera with fore light system for vision on the fly image processing vision system. This machine can handle BGA, UBGA and CSP chips. It has a 5-nozzle exchange station and 94 x 8 mm bulk feeder positions.

  • Vitronics XPM 520 Re-flow oven is 5-zone forced convection type of Re-flow machine. The advanced profiling feature allows a pre-heat ramp to be programmed below 2 degrees. It has a rail and mesh conveyor system. It has a Windows 95 operating system. It also has a Nitrogen attachment as a re-flow atmosphere.

  • Vitronics Soltec Prisma Wave Soldering Machine with dual wave solder bath to solder SMT on bottom side. It has two Pre-heaters to get a proper profile of the board. It has a foam fluxer for the Flux dispensing.
